The Lorschner Arzneibuch (Codex Bambergensis medicinalis 1; Lorsch Leechbook), a Carolingian codex from the time of Charlemagne, was written in Latin around 800 in Lorsch Abbey. It is the oldest surviving book of monastic medicine from the Western Early Middle Ages, and it is also the earliest German pharmacopoeia. It is preserved in the Staatsbibliothek Bamberg.
